Dental implants are titanium devices that are placed in the bone of the jaw or jaw in order to replace teeth lost due to cavities, periodontal disease, trauma or any other cause. Crowns would be placed on these “artificial titanium roots” to restore chewing and aesthetic function.
In principle, if there is no major systemic disease that causes it, we can all have implants. Sometimes, when the bone is not enough, your oral surgeon will perform a complete study of your case with panoramic x-rays, dental scanner, computerized models...etc. and will advise you on the best solution for your case.
After traumatic extractions or when the patient has spent time if his tooth, the bone is resorbed and makes it difficult to place implants with the conventional protocol. For these situations, there are many bone regeneration and bone grafting techniques that an oral surgeon can make available to you to place your implants. Ask at our center
It shouldn't be. We have local anesthesia and conscious sedation techniques that allow these treatments to be performed completely painlessly.
Rejection does not exist. Once the implants are placed, the phenomenon of osseointegration must occur, which consists of fixing the implant to the bone until it integrates with it. In very rare cases this process does not occur, only in approximately 2% of cases. If this happens, the oral surgeon will remove the implant and proceed to place another one in its place.
It is a protocolized and safe technique, which increases the average duration of any conventional prosthesis. However, it is essential that the patient undergoes periodic check-ups and good hygiene of the implants.
Smoking is not advisable. Numerous investigations have revealed a worse prognosis in smoking patients.
Osteoporosis is not considered an absolute contraindication and depends on each patient. In these cases, a joint assessment must be carried out between the oral surgeon and the specialist in charge of this disease.
Diabetes is not an absolute contraindication for implant placement as long as it is controlled, mainly during the osseointegration period.
